As some of you know, I'm a couple weeks away from giving birth to baby #2.
This week, I read about a new trend: pampering at the end of pregnancy.
I'm not talking about a foot rub from your partner and a pedicure. I'm talking all out pampering: bikini & leg waxes, spray tans, highlights, manicures & pedicures, massages, eyebrow shaping, THE WORKS.
From the article: "Penny (salon owner) puts the rise of the D-Day makeover down to the growth in popularity of camera phones, which have made it possible to take a photo and share it with the world instantly through Facebook and Twitter. Gone are the days when a new mum waited until she had recovered from her exertions, then put on her best dress and carefully applied her face to pose for baby's first photo."
Do we really let social media influence everything... right down to the money we spend on the birth of our children? Trust me, I do not love the way I look in our first photos after the birth of my son. BUT, I LOVE the photos. Because they are real. Because they are us. It wasn't easy, but it was worth it. And that's what I looked like.
Not saying I wouldn't mind a pedicure sometime in the next two weeks...
